17/12/13 SCC & Timing chart

Sorry for the poor quality photo but here’s this weeks SAFMED progress. I’m on phase 3 which involves welsh phrases being translated into English. I think 40 correct and 1-2 errors will be my aim as it takes longer to process sentences and quotes. I did a error correction intervention which has significantly improved my progress.

This is the standard celebration chart and timing chart for the second phase.

I did another intervention to try and improve my pronunciation and go quicker however there wasn’t much improvement which indicates I have met my fluency aim. I have already began on my 3rd phase of SAFMEDS which involves translating welsh phrases.

This week I continued with phase two however on Thursday I did an error correction intervention where I went through all my cards until I got them all correct. I am finding that my progress is improving a lot and am not too far from my aim therefore will start to design a new pack of cards.

Here’s this weeks SCC & timing charts:

The first image shows my original phase using Welsh to English SAFMEDS, as I have met my aim I plan to just do a retention test on a weekly basis. The SCC below demonstrates my 2 minutes endurance test and one minutes retention test one week after finishing my SAFMEDS training.

This next images are of my new timing chart & SCC which demonstrate the first 2 days of timing using the second phase of SAFMEDS where I turn the pack around and see the English and say the welsh correspondent. (I have been briefly trained on the welsh equivalent). I expect to reach an aim of 40 correct and 2-4 learning opportunities.

It is apparent from my SCC and timing graph that I continued to reach the aim until the 8th of November 2013, after then I decided (due to exam pressure and this being a self-paced process) to cease continuing this pack, I plan to do weekly retention tasks on friday (which I will demonstrate on the SCC), and then begin phase 2 shortly which will compose of me turning the seesay safmed cards around therfore seeing english and saying the welsh correspondent.

My SCC & timing chart demonstrates that since my intervention to drill the errors (by focusing on the particular errors) the increase in my fluency of the correct answers has slowed however my aim is still being met. More importantly my errors have significantly improved, my timing chart suggests that in recent timings my learning objectives (errors) have been meeting the aim. I plan to continue to ensure I am meeting my aim in bothe LO’s and correct answers for a few more days before moving on to phase 2 where I plan to reverse the seesay process (see the english and say the welsh).

Please let me know if the pictures aren’t clear enough..

The following images should show the progress I have been making in welsh reading seesay SAFMEDS cards.

The Standard Celeration Chart shows that increases have been made in correct answers, although the acceleration has recently slowed down a bit, I have been reaching my correct response aim of 60 although my LO’s are still high.
I plan to do an intervention to drill the errors, once my LO’s have been reduced to my aim, I will move on to pack 2 of SAFMEDS cards.
I have successfully completed 3 one minute timings each day.  The timing chart demonstrates that I have been meeting the aim each day.

I hope these pictures are view able!

The first picture is of my timing chart which displays the scores for each of the 3 SAFMEDS trials per day, as well as the aim.

The second image is of my SCC chart which uses the best score of each day, plotted onto the chart to see the long term learning process.

SAFMED blog

So I’ve decided I want to try and teach myself welsh using learning channel seesay (SAFMEDS). I will see the word written in welsh on the SAFMEDS card and the correct answer (the English translation) will be written on the back, an incorrect translation into English will be a learning opportunity. I will do this exercise for 1 minute per day, using a initial set of 60 cards, aiming to reach fluency at 60-80 correct cards, and only 0-5 learning objectives per minute.

My progress will be charted daily using SCC & timing charts and uploaded to this blog each week.
